Loopy HD: Looper App Reviews

So well thought out!

This app is by far the most well thought out looper Ive used - functional, fun, and intuitive. It was immediately entertaining even just with my crappy earbuds - next step audio input from my mandolin!

Great app for looping and layering music ideas

This app is great for making scratch tracks or quickly capturing and or layering music ideas. The user interface is pretty straightforward and easy enough to navigate. This is my go to app when I want to sketch out new song ideas.

Start off by apologizing

I believe this majestic program was picked up free at some time and because of this I may have not given it a proper look. I have had it forever and I just started using it. If you are anyone who owns field microphones and enjoys recording nature this is a great way to craft your own style. Not to fancy, but if know what you are doing and have the skills required to work with high fidelity condenser microphones you will instantly be grateful that this exists. I own a dr-05 Tascam and its great since I can use the incredible pair of stereo condensers. It has nice reverb and a few other handy effects. I can plug my iPhone into the line in. This allows you to encode MP3 files, and you can convert them later. Brilliant if you like to keep things away from the net. Now I can have multiple tracks panning, volume, syncing. I can take my recording of a storm layer it onto my soundscapes from the lake. Then add atmosphere into the backgrounds of my tracks. It adds unique flavor to every track. If you dont create music, but you are an engineer as well this is great for laying out design templates for use in the future. Thanks again for a great program. I just discovered it tonight :D. Im going to use it tomorrow hopefully when Im recording. iOS is getting some major applications recently.

Fantastic looper!

Im embarrassed to admit that Ive owned Loopy for quite some time, but was a bit confused by the interface, and found it daunting. But, after watching their introduction video via their website, it makes complete sense and I find it extremely intuitive and fun to use. I love that it is seamless with Audiobus, which makes sense, because Loopys developer is also responsible for Audiobus and Audiobus Remote. Very cool! I would love to request for Loopys metronome toggle to be accessible via the AB panel and AB Remote triggers. That would help make my live loop recording more efficient. Thanks in advance, and thanks for making such a great musical tool.

Awesome music tool!

I primarily use this app to loop hardware synths, and it works great. I use a Presonus Audiobox iTwo to send audio in and MIDI out. I have looped different hardware synths including a Novation MiniNova and Korg Volcas with great success. Loopy is fairly easy to use, and there is a help menu and tutorials to aid in comprehension. It also has features that make it excel at live uses, such as record count-in, beat sync playback, and a two-finger twist function that allows you to fix timing issues. Plus, it supports audiobus, so it works with synth apps as well. In all, this app is a great tool that has allowed me expand my workflow and seamlessly integrate both my hardware synths and synth apps. The only thing I can think of that would make it better is an equalizer on a per loop basis.

Worth Every Penny, Amazing App!

I highly recommend this App, it has by far exceeded my expectations, Ive used a number of different loop stations, and after using Loopy HD I was shocked by its capabilities. If you are looking to expand your creative endeavors and compose your best work, this is a perfect tool to accomplish that!

Could be so awesome

This app would be so friggin amazing if it wasnt the most confusing thing Ive ever tried to figure out. The layout is not easy to comprehend whatsoever, and Im a mechanical engineer...

I LOVE Loopy, but....

Ive used this wonderful program for years, as far back as my Ipad 1, and I love it. I wrote so many things on it, I have used it in concert, and Ive developed ways to use it that the people who wrote this app didnt even imagine. On the Ipad pro, its wonderful. That is why I was disappointed the other day when the app started malfunctioning, and just when I needed it. The sound was weird, and other glitches made it totally un-usable. I had to dump it and re-load it, and I lost almost a year of compositions. Now I have to re-compose a bunch of stuff that I use in concert, and thats VERY frustrating. Any suggestions? I really like the app, but losing all of that made me wonder if its really something i can use professionally.

MHO

I bought it, I tried it out, I got bored with it. I do not remember how much I spent for it because it was a while ago. I am not a musician. I purchased it because I saw it on the TV show as indicated in the description of the app. Its nice to play around with, but so far I have not found a use for it. I love music. Who doesnt?

Complex - poor UX design and tutorials

I think they tried to stuff too much into this. Maybe Ill roll back to the simpler version. I have monkeyed around this thing for about 30 minutes and done my share of Web searches for basic things (like, how do you set up a count-in on the metronome so you have time to grab your guitar, etc. - not intuitive). I know the DAW/recordning lingo - I use Ableton, ProTools, NI etc. regularly. My gut tells me there are lots of capabilties in here just some poor UX design (they sacrificed intuitive design for style, I think) and poor training collateral. This is not for someone who just wants to grab an app and get down some scratch tracks.

Other reviewer are right---the user interface is terrible

I bought Loopy HD after disregarding all the negative reviews about the user interface. I shouldnt have; it has a lot of potential, but the user interface is so cryptic that you wont figure it out even after watching instructional videos. The other puzzling thing is that if you rotate the iPad to get your ports to suit your set-up, the interface is also rotated rather than remaining the same. I.e., the UI is sensitive to screen rotation, unlike most other apps. The net result is that that the control bar and buttons on it change position, depending on screen rotation, and this is very confusing. There might be a setting to tweak that I have missed, but it is not for a lack of looking!

fun and powerful app

LoopyHD is a great app that has more depth than meets the eye. It provides many ways to make loops with or without a metronome. Ive found the performance to vary on different Apple devices with my iPhone currently outperforming an iPad Air 2. There may be an iOS 8.3 bug that is adding latency to the built in mic on the iPad. With some practice some amazing music can be made. I love the ability to use this with AudioBus and iMaschine. What a combo! Loops can also be very long which add greater compositional flexibility.

Dont waste your time

Wasted a long time creating six tracks only to find out I cant export anything out of it!!!

MUST HAVE!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Loopy HD is just great. Part of my workflow every time. Perfect for time-stretching (changing the speed/tempo of a loop without affecting pitch). I get irritated with people leaving bad reviews out of ignorance. To the cat lady... no disrespect but, again in English please, hun. To the others, u can export multiple ways, it actually couldnt be easier or more intuitive. Audiobus is made by the same dude lol. Or use the general pasteboard (Go on google or YouTube before putting false information in your review please, u are doing consumers no service). Speaking of which I saw this developers YouTube vid for his new DAW app coming soon and was blown away!!! Looks amazing, cannot wait for that to drop!!! Keep up the good work. Loopy HD is Five Stars all the way.

iOS Music Apps...

...Seem to be going to crap lately as a result of iOS 8 and this one is no exception. And why are there two versions for iPhone? Just keep the universal one so we dont have to pay twice!

Simple but phenomenal

Love the implementation, love the interface, love the simplicity of this app. Most importantly, it just works! Last but not least, the app was designed to wirk with VoiceOver screen reader. Thanks!

So much fun!

If you are a musician then this app is probably the best app in the whole store! Its so fun to mess around with a bunch of layers of sound!

Totally worth the money!

There are a bunch of apps out there that are as expensive as this app or maybe even more expensive and about seven times out of ten they are complete ripoff apps that are a complete waste of money. This time, this is an app that is absolutely worth the money! For this app, I was really expecting to have to pay more than four dollars because of the copious amount of features put onto one little music app. This app is very great for the people who absolutely crave musical creativity. Especially to people like me who have a keyboard, piano, drums, etc.. All you have to do to get started the right way is that you tap on the first circle to get the basic beat. It will then loop itself over and over again and you can add on to sounds by clicking on the other circles to record something else. Then you can combine together everything you recorded to pull together your masterpiece! This app is great and every musician out there should have this especially if they have musical instruments of sorts. You can have a beat going while you put on the bass, the rhythm, and the main melody (get this) ALL BY YOURSELF or even with a partner if you want! As good as all this sounds however, you really need to practice a bunch in order for your song to be perfect. You will have to know how to make the beat consistent every time it loops. This really is not too difficult to master once you get used to all the mechanics and tricks. I will most likely be using my keyboard to make some pretty amazing songs to share with my friends! I am very happy now that I have an app like this now on my iPad mini 1. So far, I do not have any bug issues but if I do later on, I will let you know about it. I actually do have one issue with modifying the tempo. I go to record a loop and I listen to the loop but I feel like it should be faster or slower tempo. So I go to change tempo and then listen to the loop again at the modified tempo. However there are a lot of ripples in the sound that sound very ugly and there is nothing I can do about it. I then have to start all over again. I would appreciate it if you tried to see if you guys can fix this issue. If you are not able to, thats fine. I will still continue to pursue my musical ability with this very easy to use app!

So so good!

Came to this since this was featured in a recent Tamil (Indian) movie. This is so so fun. Terrific! Can do so many combinations.

Not fir 4s

Sounds like absolute crap on 4s. Waste of money!!!!
